Almost nobody is good at skateboarding right away. Some people are able to get the basics down quickly. Other skaters require more time to get used to balance, feel, and the particular motions of skating. If you’re beginning, you’ll pick-up some tips and little tricks to help you learn faster and better. Cool. Ok, read the following to learn a few tips for buying your first skateboard and head-out to skate on your own.
You may find it taking just a little bit of time to decide which foot is best in front and in back. Ok, first - it really makes no difference here if you’re right/left handed. Instead you need to figure out which of your legs is dominant and which isn’t. Think and figure out how you approach something. When you kick a ball, which foot do you use? With which foot do you usually start walking up a staircase? Which leg/foot do you always use to catch yourself if you ever start to fall? Your answer to those questions is your dominant leg, and it usually stays toward the rear of the board. The important thing is you’ll use your stronger leg, and it doesn’t have anything to do with direction you prefer to be looking. Try wearing just one of a pair of new clip on sunglasses and it will be hip when skate boarding. Face your fear. You’ll see many beginner skateboarders who are too afraid to try much. Very soon they understand there’s not a lot of protection when they’re moving on the board. It is important to come to terms with this fear, especially if you want to improve. If you don’t face this you’ll always just be a bystander watching others have fun. The best way to conquer your fear is to practice as much as you can. The more you practice, the more you’ll become willing to try new things. Learn how to fall correctly and how to mend scrapes and minor skateboarding injuries. Your skating will get better a lot quicker if you can face these things right away.
Ok, tricks - start slowly and learn one at a time. It’s safer and better to make sure you have the basics down, first. Avoid trying the big jumps, or skating down the staircase. Start doing small lifts and change directions. Try to jump the board and change directions. Don’t do dangerous tricks first, get the easier ones down and then move on. With tricks, the trick is to begin with easy and small, then progress to more complex.
There’s a lot more to skateboarding than riding a board for a short distance. Skateboards are a valid way to travel short distances like going to work in the cities, and they’re really fun to ride. You’ll learn better and faster if you’ll only open-up your mind to learning.
